Dr. Libo YAO has been with Fourth Military Medical University (FMMU) since 1980, joining originally as a postgraduate student. In 1989, she began work as an Assistant Professor and then Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, School of Preclinical Education, FMMU. She became a full Professor and Director of the Department in 1996. She is currently a member of Science and Technology Council of Ministry of Education of China and Chair of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Association of Shaanxi Province.
Dr. Yao received her M.D. from Harbin Medical University in 1977 and her Ph.D. in the field of Molecular Biology in 1988 from the FMMU. During 1988 to 1989, she worked as a visiting fellow in the Department of Medical Chemistry, Faculty of Medicine, Kyoto University, Japan. From 1993, she spent three years as a visiting scientist in La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology, USA.
Dr. Yao's research focuses on signal transduction, especially in cancer and inflammation. She was supported by a special grant of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) awarded to Outstanding Young Scientist in 1998. Some of her research is currently supported by the grants from the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China and NSFC.
She has published 63 papers in SCI journals, such as Cancer Res, J Biol Chem, and Nuc Acid Res. As editor in chief or associate editor, she has eight textbooks published in the field of biochemistry and molecular biology. She holds three national invention patents. She was awarded a first place prize of the Shaanxi Sci-Tech Advance Award in 2007.
