Department of Psychology

Welcome to the Department of Psychology, affiliated with School of Aerospace Medicine, Fourth Military Medical University. Since established in 1960 and its inception in 1988 under the guidance of Prof. Huangfu En and Prof. Miao Dan-min, our department has been committed in its traditional research direction, and has strived for excellence in the research and educational missions of the applied psychology. We have 4 laboratories and approx. 30 researchers, postdoctoral fellows, and Ph.D., M.D. graduate students actively engaged in innovative research, discovery, and training, supported by 13 staff members.

Research

The research in the Department is an essential function and covers a wide range of topics with special emphasis on: (1)personnel selection, classification and assignment. We have already set up several personnel selection systems, such as pilots, astronauts, drivers, primary officers as well as recruits. (2)psychological mechanism and prevention of stress. Firstly, we proposed the concept of information casualty, and discussed its influence factors, including risk decision-making, contrast of text and context situation etc. Secondly, we explored the psychological characteristics in special environment. Focus on the assessment of performance and prevention strategy. We have found MMN(mismatch negativity) is the good marker to predict fatigue using behavioral model of continuous driving and sleep deprivation. (3) Organizational mental health. We proposed the concept and theoretic frame of organizational mental health and set up the evaluation method and criterion.

Education

The department educates undergraduate and graduate students as well as providing continuing education for employees. Our programs offer quality education, diverse experiences and ample opportunities to engage in research activities. The courses of education programs include aviation and aerospace psychology, clinical psychology, psychometrics, experimental psychology, abnormal psychology and military psychology. We offer lecture and laboratory courses for graduate students as well as research opportunities for graduate students, undergraduate students and visiting scholars.

I hope you find our site to be a useful window through which you can glimpse into the life of the Department and learn about our graduate program and research projects.

Thanks for visiting,
